Teak flooring is considered one of the best hardwoods that can be used for flooring. Beyond that, it's actually considered one of the most useful, resilient, and beautiful woods on the market. It is used in everything from patio furniture, to the decks of boats. The reason for this extensive usage lies in its many amazing natural qualities. First off it is naturally weather resistant. This is due to its natural oils, which repels rain, and allows it to maintain its look for many years. We're not talking 5 or 10 years, we're talking decades, and beyond. At most, to restore teak, you simply need to sand off the greying top layer, using a special caustic teak cleaner, and it'll be looking as good as new.

In addition to repelling water, these natural oils also repel insects and pests, so you never have to worry about the wood being compromised by termites and the like.

Teak Wood Flooring is Tough

Without a doubt, your floors are going to take a harder beating than just about anything in your house.  It's going to be walked on, spilled on, wrestled on, have mud and any manor of things dropped onto it, and rubbed into it, and then if you have pets that's a whole other story.  Basically, anything you use as flooring has to be extremely tough.  This is why teak is widely used, because it is tough and resistant to stains, and spills and can fend off just about anything you can throw at it.  It also has a very warm and natural honey brown color to it that really brightens the home.  To really enhance the look, teak parquet flooring can be purchased, or fashioned together and you get the beautiful colors, and toughness with a little added style and flare.

There are some options aside from standard teak, and one of them is called Brazilian teak flooring, or Cumaru.  This isn't actually teak, which is found in Southeast Asia, but it shares many of the same qualities such as the natural weather resistance, hardness, and warm color.  Its color ranges from golden brown to reddish brown.  Another type of flooring in the same group is the exotic Burmese teak flooring.  This is an actual teak, with Burma being in the Southeast of Asia, but this particular version of teak is a bit more rare.  It has a darker color to it, and of course has all the tough properties of teak.  Golden teak flooring can be used to describe any number of "teaks" including the Australian Acacia, and sometimes even Brazilian Teak.  The most important thing is that they all have very similar long-lasting qualities.

Teak requires little upkeep aside from simple cleaning.  It doesn't require staining or oiling, though oiling can be used to give teak different shades of color and can bring out the natural variances in the wood.  It stays resilient for its lifespan, and is hard enough that it can take a solid beating and still remain beautiful.  A dent or scratch here and there may even provide a certain character that you might enjoy.  Either way, while teak is more expensive, you will likely never have to replace it, which will save money over the life of your home.  For these reasons, teak flooring is probably the best hardwood flooring you can put in your home.
