There are plenty of closet organization ideas floating around out there. You just have to read about them for a little inspiration, and try to make sense of them, and combine them into your own solution to your organization requirements. There are few universal solutions because there are many different sizes of closets as well as personal tastes and styles to deal with. Of course, there are some rather universal rules, such as having your clothes hung in order of colors, from light to dark, and keeping out of season clothing tucked away, perhaps in a portable closet in the attic, while leaving in-season clothing easily accessible. One of the first things you'll want to look into is bedroom closet organizers. Like closets, these come in different sizes and styles, so you should be able to find one that suits your needs.

Certain types of closets present their own challenges, so let's take a look at some bedroom closet organization ideas for specific closet types.

Small closets have a unique set of difficulties to deal with. These closets are usually about 4 feet wide, and are barely wider than the door used to get in them. This doesn't leave much space for creative organization. If you own the house with this closet, you can do some modifications to the closet layout, but if you rent, your options will be even more limited. Since you don't have a lot of horizontal space, you have to work more with vertical space.

One very useful option is the pull down closet rod. This allows you to remove that upper shelf in your closet and replace it with a hanger rod. That shelf, left where it is, doesn't present much use anyway, since it's difficult to access. Removing it, and moving the rod up into that space brings that cubic footage down into a more accessible arena.

Once you've got your closet rod and hanging clothes up out of the way, you have a lot more space to work with down below. You can fill this space with cubbies, shelves, shoe racks, and even a cubby stack/closet rod combo for more hanging space. The key with small closets is working with your vertical space, and reducing the amount of unused space, like that upper shelf.

Kids Closet Organization Ideas

Children's closets also have their own unique aspect.  If you have a baby, then it's more for you that you're going to want to organize this closet, and you're going to want to get a baby closet organizer.  This will help immensely when it comes to keeping the time spent organizing for the day to a minimum.

Older children, who may be taking care of their room on their own, are going to have to have space for all their toys and trinkets.  This is where tupperware, rubbermaid, or generic storage boxes come in really handy.  Combine this with a colorful and exciting bedroom closet organizer, and a couple little lessons on keeping things in order, and you should have to spend much less time keeping on them about cleaning up their room (in theory at least, but we all know how well that turns out).

Walk In Closet Organization Ideas

Walk in closet design ideas are infinite in scope. This is because there is just so much space to work with. You can incorporate any of the above mentioned tricks and techniques to keep your walk in closet organized, as well as including some other interesting options. Since some walk ins are large enough to be considered dressing rooms, you can include a vanity, and a place to sit and get ready for the day. You will also usually have a full length mirror or two so you can make sure you look great before leaving for the day. Some ambitious walk in closet designers even include a washer and dryer within the closet, which is incredibly convenient.

Cheap Closet Organization Ideas

If you're on a budget, you might feel that closet organization isn't worth the cost involved, but closet organization doesn't have to break the bank.  There's no rule saying you have to go out and buy some very expensive closet organization system though. You can do some simple things to keep things organized. Some of the tips mentioned in the first paragraph above will work without having to purchase anything additional. You can also find fairly inexpensive shoe racks, and free standing closet shelves for $20 to $30 without having to buy a whole organization system. Another useful and inexpensive item is plastic bins. These bins can be used to organize and store all the miscellaneous items that don't hang, or sit on a shelf well.

Basic closet organization ideas don't change very much from closet to closet.  However, above are some tips that hopefully cover your specific closet.  If you happen to have a whole bunch of money, you can hire a professional closet organizer, but in reality it's a bit easier, and less expensive to come up with some creative solutions yourself.
